COMMERCIAL DRIVER’S LICENSE ISSUE The TWU International legislative office in Washington, D.C. and Local 250-A are working together to repeal the unfair Commercial Driver’s License law. We are also working closely with the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) on joint issues of concern that will be raised when the new Congress resumes next year as well as day-to-day problems facing our members as a result of this new law. We will forward information we have collected to our representatives in Washington, D.C. as we prepare to carry the fight forward against this unjust Commercial Driver’s License law. We have been made aware that you must show proof of insurance when operating your own vehicle when you are either in an accident or stopped by the police. Failure to show proof of insurance are grounds to suspend your Commercial Driver’s License for one year, and purchasing auto insurance after the fact will not re-instate your Commercial Driver’s License. Proof of insurance certificate is the only acceptable form of insurance coverage by law enforcement that may be obtained through your insurance company. If you have no auto insurance, call Civil Service Employee Insurance (CSE) at 1-800-282-6848 extension 1, who will refer you to an agent in your area. Do not jeopardize your livelihood by not having insurance coverage for your personal automobile.
